Fireman & Child

On July 25, 2002 the City welcomed the latest addition to its public art program, the "Fireman and Child" sculpture by sculptor Edward Chesney.

The $56,000 bronze sculpture depicts a fireman holding a child in 1 arm and a lantern in the other while walking his way out of a blaze. It is an 8 foot replica of the sculpture Chesney created for the Michigan Firemen's Memorial in Roscommon, Michigan.

Fireman & Child was selected as the new focal point of the new Central Fire Station to honor a retired Sterling Heights assistant fire chief who originally conceptualized the Roscommon Memorial with Chesney 20 years ago.

The sculpture is located at:
New Central Fire Station
38911 Van Dyke
Sterling Heights, MI 48313

The fire station is located on the southwest corner of Van Dyke Avenue and 17 Mile Road.
