[ARCHIVED] Sterling Heights offers cooling centers for predicted extreme temperatures

Due to the predicted extreme heat over the next several days, the city of Sterling Heights is alerting residents that the Sterling Heights Community Center and Sterling Heights Senior Center and Sterling Heights Public Library are open and can be used as a cooling center during the following days/times:

  • Community Center: Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Senior Center: Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Library: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.

In addition, the Sterling Heights Police Department lobby is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in case residents need a place to cool down.

In the case of emergency power outages during this time, additional open hours may be made for the Community Center. Residents should follow the Sterling Heights social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram for updates or may also sign up for emergency alerts at sterlingheights.gov/notfiyme.
