The City of Sterling Heights Building Department is partnering with The Home Depot in an upcoming event on Saturday, May 4, 2019 to promote Building Safety Month.
The event will be held at The Home Depot on Van Dyke and Metro Parkway (37000 Van Dyke Ave, Sterling Heights, MI 48312) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In collaboration with the kid’s workshops hosted by The Home Depot, the building department will be on-site this Saturday to assist with the young participants. Upon arrival, each child will receive a kid's hard-hat with the City logo on the front that they can wear while working on their project. There will be inspectors, as well as police officers and firefighter, at the event to answer questions regarding home projects and safety for customers. The event will bring awareness on the importance of keeping up-to-date with current building codes and having a strong system of code enforcement to ensure that individuals and communities are safe in the buildings where they live, work, and play. Building codes become increasingly important to the safety, health and wellbeing of our families and communities.
“In efforts to promote Building Safety, the Sterling Heights Building Inspectors will be available at this event to engage with the local residents and raise awareness to homeowners safety.,” said Building Official Michael Viazanko. “This is a great opportunity for anyone that is maybe considering a project around the house this summer to get their questions answered. We have always provided a high level of customer service to our residents through the years and will continue into the future. The inspection staff didn’t hesitate to commit to this event when I presented it to them to assure it’s a success.”
The Sterling Heights Police Department will be on-site to promote home security and safety, and the Sterling Heights Fire Department will bring awareness of fire safety preparedness and smoke detectors. There will be information passed out to those interested.
