[ARCHIVED] Library to celebrate grand Sunday reopening on Sept. 13

After a six-year absence, the Sterling Heights Public Library will officially re-open its doors for Sunday hours on Sept. 13. Beginning this Sunday, the library will be open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m.

After a six-year absence, the Sterling Heights Public Library will officially re-open its doors for Sunday hours on Sept. 13. Beginning this Sunday, the library will be open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m.

At 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 13, the library will kick-off its grand reopening to the public with a VIP ceremony, complimentary cake, and a toe tappin’ piano concert.

In April, the Sterling Heights City Council voted unanimously to restore the library’s Sunday hours. The library has not been open on Sundays since May of 2009 in the wake of the financial crisis. Thanks to the city’s economic recovery measures, the Sterling Heights City Council will now restore the service to the community.

“The Sterling Heights Library is an incredible asset to our community,” said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor. “The return of Sunday hours will offer more opportunities for residents to take advantage of the endless resources and materials at this wonderful public space.”

“The library is excited to be open all seven days of the week,” says Tammy Turgeon, Library Director of the Sterling Heights Public Library. “We are always eager to meet the community’s needs.”

Residents can expect a ribbon-cutting ceremony lead by Mayor Michael Taylor followed by an indoor music concert by Matthew Ball, the Boogie Woogie Kid. Participants can enjoy free cake and Ball’s upbeat and family-friendly concert.

For more information about the event, please call the Sterling Heights Public Library at 586-446-2640.
