The library is celebrating its 50-year Anniversary this October! The library started in the basement of City Hall on October 27, 1971. It then moved to a ranch style house in 1974, before building the current library from a federal public works grant and opening it to the public in 1979.
October 2 at 2 p.m., we are celebrating with a fall-fest-themed, all-ages event that will feature music from Paula Messner, cider, and donuts. Paula Messner, of Miss Paula & the Candy Bandits, has been playing original children’s music for twenty years. She will be accompanied by a stand-up bassist. Registration is encouraged. Call 586-446-2640 or register online.
In addition, the library will have an archival display in the lobby starting the last week of September and running throughout October to commemorate the ways the library has changed and grown.
