City of Sterling Heights Cut Ribbon on New Bocce Barn

The Sterling Heights Bocce Barn ribbon cutting ceremony is set to take place on March 21 at 6 p.m.

Who: Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor and members of Sterling Heights City Council, City Manager Mark Vanderpool, Parks and Recreation Director Kyle Langlois and other guests

What: Ribbon cutting, photo opportunity and tour of the Bocce Barn, Sterling Heights’ new three-season indoor bocce ball facility.

Why: To celebrate the opening of the final capstone project for the Recreating Recreation initiative. Recreating Recreation began in 2016 with support from residents to improve existing parks and add a number of recreation amenities. As a result, the City has renovated many existing facilities, playgrounds, athletic courts, and trails, and replaced equipment including benches, picnic tables, and trash cans.

New amenities have been welcomed to the City, including the 98,000-square-foot Community Center, an outdoor Splash Pad, a summer farmers market pavilion that transforms into an ice rink in winter, universally accessible paddle docks for canoers and kayakers of all abilities, a dog park, a skate park for all ages, a mini-turf soccer field and a new nature trail running from Delia Park to Corewell Health’s Beaumont Hospital.

When: 6 pm, Tuesday, March 21, 2023

Where: Behind Sterling Heights Senior Center, 40200 Utica Road, Sterling Heights
