Sterling Heights has been home to public art for decades, and since 2018 began investing in murals, with input from the Sterling Heights Arts Commission, to bring art, color and creativity to formerly blank or uninspiring facades throughout the City.
Now, the city of Sterling Heights invites mural artists to submit designs for consideration to be installed at a highly visible location in Sterling Heights this summer. The chosen muralist will be commissioned by the City to install a large outdoor mural to its collection.
The mural will be promoted to City residents and artists through print and social media and highlighted in numerous community arts and culture events, as well as the City’s Digital Art Map. Artists can learn more about the City’s existing Public Art collection at sterling-heights.net/publicart.
It is also the hope of the City that the artist or artists will take into consideration the inclusivity aspect of its Visioning 2030 vision statement and guiding principles when proposing their design:
Vision Statement: A vibrant, inclusive community for residents and businesses that is safe, active, progressive and distinctive. Sterling Heights - a bold vision for an exceptional quality of life. Guiding Principles:
