July MYSHPR 2025 Events

Building Closures

Community Center, Senior Center and Nature Center will be closed on Friday, July 4 for Independence Day. Normal operations will resume on Saturday, July 5.

The Community Center and Senior Center will be closed from July 21-26 in preparation for our annual Sterlingfest event. 

Recreation on the Run

Mondays, June 16 - Aug. 18 from 3-5 p.m. No registration required. More info.

#MYSHPR is bringing the fun and games to our neighborhood parks this summer, allowing for resident children and adults to develop meaningful connections with one another and with city employees through various crafts and activities. Every week the site location will change, but the time will remain the same (3-5 p.m.). This program is free for everyone and open to all ages!

Guided Conservatory Walks

Available on Wednesdays and Saturdays through October. Register online.

Join us for an unforgettable guided walk through our Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens in Nelson Park. Experience the beauty of vibrant butterflies, other insects, and plants as you learn about their fascinating life cycles from our expert guides.

Join us every Thursday in Dodge Park through Sept. 25 for live music, Farmers Market, Patios 'n' Pints with Connect Macomb, good vibes, and community fun in the heart of Sterling Heights. 

Roller Nights

Tuesday, July 15 from 5-8 p.m. Free to attend!

We're on a roll with our Roller Nights under the Dodge Park Farmers Market Pavilion. Roller skaters/bladers, skateboarders, bikes and more are invited to come out and skate with live DJ entertainment and food from local food trucks. Roller Nights is free to attend.

Sterlingfest

July 24-26 from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. More info.

The party of the summer returns from July 24-26. Meet us on the festival grounds for three days of art, music, carnival rides, food trucks, and summer fun you won’t want to miss!

Community Center

Indoor Walking Track

Keep cool with a walk around our Indoor Walking Track. Free for Sterling Heights residents with proper identification and $5 for non-residents. More info.

Karate

It's never too soon or too late to begin your martial arts journey and learn the fundamentals of karate. We're kicking off the summer with both beginner and advanced karate for kids ages 8-15 and adult beginner karate.

Teen Painting with a Twist

Wednesdays, July 9-30 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Register online by July 2.

Continue to grow your creative talents throughout the summer! Artists will learn new designs and techniques for creating their own personal "masterpiece". Each class will offer a new theme and artists will take home a creation after every class.

Community Blood Drive

Tuesday, July 15 from 2:30 - 7 p.m. Schedule an appointment.

Help spread the love by donating blood at our upcoming Community Blood Drive on June 24 from 2:30 - 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Walk-ins welcome as schedule allows but appointments are preferred.

Saturdays, July 12 - Aug. 23 from 1-2 p.m. Register online by July 10.

Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience, you'll find the challenge of hitting targets at varying distances both exciting and rewarding. Join us for a transformative experience that combines skill development, stress relief and community building! This engaging six-week course is taught exclusively by USA Archery Certified Instructors, ensuring you receive top-notch guidance and support.

Nature Detectives

Wednesday, July 16 from 12-1:30 p.m. Register online by July 9.

Join us for an immersive experience where you'll step into the shoes of a detective, but with a twist—nature is your mystery! Our "Nature Detectives" program invites participants of all ages to explore the great outdoors with curiosity and a sense of adventure.

Bats in the Moonlight

Saturday, July 19 from 7:30-9 p.m. Register online by July 12.

With the guidance of knowledgeable naturalists, you'll embark on a twilight hike designed to reveal the secrets of these nocturnal creatures. As you walk beneath the starry sky, you'll have the chance to use specialized equipment to hear bats' echolocation calls, gaining insight into how they navigate and hunt in the dark. This experience not only highlights the vital ecological role bats play as pollinators and insect controllers but also dispels common myths about these fascinating mammals.

Senior Center

50+ Walking Club

Every Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. through Sept. 24. Register online.

Meet new friends, explore new parks, walk at your own pace and choose the distance that works for you! This group walks in Dodge Park and will travel to other area parks several times a month. All walks depart from the Senior Center.

Daytime Concert Series

Grab your friends and family or come on your own to enjoy an hour of great entertainment during our Daytime Concert Series! Programs will be held at either the Senior Center or Farmers Market Pavilion, keeping us covered rain or shine!
