Building Closures

The Sterling Heights Public Library will be closed July 4 and 5, in observance of Independence Day. The Library will also be closed July 24-26 for the City's annual Sterlingfest!

Local Author Book Sale

As part of the City's annual Sterlingfest event, our 2025 Local Author Book Sale will take place on Saturday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the sidewalk alongside the Sterling Heights Public Library. Come out to talk with over 50 local authors, get a peek at their work and purchase autographed books! More info.

Upton House

Connect with Sterling Heights' past with photos, displays and more at the Upton House Museum. Tours will be available from 1-4 p.m. on July 25 and 26.

All Ages Programming

Family Lego Bingo

Music Concert Musical Treasures: Hidden Musical Gems from American Composers

Join Kelly and Darryl Roenicke in this indoor concert for an evening of beautiful violin and piano music. Musical Treasures: Hidden Musical Gems from American Composers will feature works from many composers including Amy Beach, William Grant Still, Florence Price, the Gershwins, and others. Come learn more about these important figures, and hear their beautiful contributions to American music history.

No experience needed for this fun and meditative art project! You will be guided in using the simplicity of circles embellished with patterns and colors to create this piece of dazzling doodle art!

Found Object Assemblage Workshop

Monday, July 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. Register online.

Discover the art of transforming everyday objects into captivating works of art in this hands-on workshop. Participants will explore the creative potential of discarded, recycled, and unconventional materials, learning techniques to assemble, manipulate, and combine objects in imaginative ways. Guided by an experienced artist and instructor from the College of Creative Studies, the workshop covers key concepts such as composition, balance, texture, and storytelling through found materials. All materials are provided.

Tweening: A Parent and Tween Night Out

Whether you're interested in trying cosplay for the first time, or just looking to connect to the community in-person, this cosplay group is a great space to learn all about the craft, meet new people, and work on your own projects. Please bring your own supplies for projects. 

Anime Club

Patrons between the ages of 12 and 18 are invited to visit the library to watch anime with fellow fans! In addition to watching anime, patrons will be able to discuss anime and manga with others, complete a drawing or craft activity, and enjoy some anime-inspired Japanese snacks!

Perler Palooza

Back by popular demand, it's Perler-palooza time! Children aged 5-12 are invited to the library to make crafts with Perler beads.

Bear Cub Book Club

Monday, July 14 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Register online.

Boost reading skills with support from high school mentors! 3rd to 5th graders will practice reading out loud in a fun, supportive setting. The program kicks off with high schoolers reading a short story to the group, followed by a discussion to help everyone engage with the text. Students will be grouped with their peers and a high school mentor to practice reading. Please note: Parents or Guardians are required to stay with their elementary schoolers under age 10 during the session.

Ceramics Class

Come play with clay for a fun afternoon learning how to make and decorate pinch pots with Anton Art Center. No experience necessary, and all supplies are included.

Camouflage Quest: Nature's Greatest Disguise

The Sterling Heights Nature Center is coming to SHPL! In this fun program, kids will explore different habitats and learn how animals use their colors and patterns to hide and survive. With a craft, game, and story, kids will discover how to spot these sneaky creatures while working as a team. It's the perfect way to have fun and learn about nature's amazing tricks!
