Traffic Calming Town Hall

The City of Sterling Heights recently hosted a traffic calming town hall to discuss ways to make local streets safer for everyone. Residents met with city staff from Engineering, Planning, Police and Administration to share concerns about speeding, reckless driving and pedestrian safety.

As part of the city’s Comprehensive Transportation Safety Action Plan, this ongoing effort aims to reduce crashes, encourage safer driving habits and move toward the long-term goal of zero serious injuries or fatalities by 2050.

Sterling Heights Fire Department Open House

The Sterling Heights Fire Department kicked off Fire Prevention Week with their annual Open House, and it was a blast! They had an incredible turnout and loved welcoming so many members of the community to spend the day with them.

Guests enjoyed live demonstrations, dressing like a firefighter, exploring the trucks, meeting our crews, station tours and even crafting with Home Depot. It was a chance to meet our firefighters, see the dedication and equipment behind their work, and enjoy hands-on activities, fire safety tips, and of course, cider and donuts!

Vibe Credit Union Bench and Food Drive

Since opening in May, the Community Garden in Nelson Park has become a space for residents to recharge—mind, body, and soul. Thanks to Vibe Credit Union, the first sponsor of our garden’s reflection benches, visitors can pause, relax, and reflect as they enjoy the natural beauty around them. And Vibe’s generosity doesn’t stop there! They also partnered with us for this year’s Sterling Frights food drive in Dodge Park with all contributions supporting the Community Food Bank of Macomb.

2025 Sterling Heights Diversity Dinner

Our annual Diversity Dinner was a powerful celebration of the individuals and businesses in our community who champion diversity and cultural understanding. We were honored to hear from keynote speaker Marcus Evangelista, who spoke about navigating a split identity, preserving culture and the value of hard work. His words inspired and challenged us to keep pushing for inclusion in every space.

Congratulations to this year’s award recipients, Tracey Scott, Abdul "Karriem" Muhammed, Diana Bledsoe, and Sue Giallombardo, for their outstanding leadership and commitment to building a more equitable community. Thank you to everyone who joined us in recognizing and uplifting the voices that make our community stronger.
