Effective February 8th the City of Sterling Heights will be changing their enforcement of the 2009 Michigan Residential Code to the 2015 Michigan Residential Code.
Pursuant to Section 125.1506 of the Stille-DeRossett-Hale Single State Construction Code, 1972 PA230, the 2015 Michigan Residential Code and the Part 10 Energy Code will change. These rules adopt the 2015 edition of the International Residential Code with amendments, deletions and additions deemed necessary for use in Michigan, and are effective statewide on February 8, 2016. Upon the effective date, every unit of government with building code administration and enforcement responsibility must enforce these new rules.
Builder’s that have plans on file as a “Master Plan” will have to submit new sets of construction drawings to re-establish a new “Master Plan” complying with all changes in the new code. Builder’s choosing to create new master plans will also have to submit a reduced plan of the foundation and elevation in an 81/2” x 11” size.
