[ARCHIVED] HIghly successful Dodge Park Farmers Market gears up for second season, kick off is June 2

The City of Sterling Heights is enthusiastically prepping for its second year of the Dodge Park Farmers Market (DPFM), a fun-filled Thursday event that brings fresh produce and organic fare to the Sterling Heights City Center.

The market will begin on June 2 and run from 3 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through the end of September (with the exception of Sterlingfest week July 28). Market attendees can expect to see fresh fruits, vegetables, artisan crafts and food throughout the season. Residents interested in receiving weekly email updates about the market can sign-up by going to the City’s website, sterling-heights.net and clicking “Notify Me” to choose the DPFM listserv.

Additionally, each week will have children’s corner activities sponsored by local partners, food trucks, and live music at the market. During the months of June, July and August, the Music in the Park Summer Concert Series will be taking place simultaneously from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dodge Park Amphitheatre.

Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor said the City is proud to bring back what has quickly become a staple summer event for Sterling Heights.

“The feedback for the Dodge Park Farmers Market in its first year was incredibly positive, so we have expectations that this year’s market will be even more successful than the first,” Taylor said. “I know I’ll be bringing my family out to the market as often as I can to take advantage of locally sourced produce as well as the wonderful atmosphere.”

A variety of new activities are also planned for the market’s second season, including cooking demonstrations by local chefs and market special events throughout the month of September such as “Healthy Day at the Market,” the annual Pie Baking Competition, the Pet Parade and the immensely popular “Touch-A-Truck” event. Art in the Park, a new painting event sponsored by the City’s Arts Commission, will also be taking place on four Thursdays throughout the summer at the Dodge Park Pavilion. Pre-registration is required.

“The synergy we’ve created at Dodge Park and the City Center on Thursdays throughout the summer is incredible,” said Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Langlois. “The first year of the market proved there was a desire from residents for this type of programming within our City. We are happy to meet their needs and will continue to seek ways to add on and improve the Dodge Park Farmers Market in the years ahead.”
