On Sunday, June 12, Sterling Heights Fire Engine #1 was dispatched to the report of a golf cart on fire at Plumbrook Golf Course. The golf cart quickly became fully engulfed with flames and was parked directly next to the 20’x60’ building golf carts where golf carts are stored. High winds pushed the flames into the building, which then quickly became engulfed in flames.
Upon arrival of the first fire engine, the structure was well involved in flames. Crews from Stations 1, 3, 4 and 5 responded and brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes. However, there was extensive overhaul and clean up that kept crews tied up on scene for three hours. The Department of Public Works responded with a piece of heavy equipment to assist in moving debris.
The structure was a total loss, including an estimated 4 golf carts. The fire was kept from the clubhouse and the golf course is up and running at this time.
