Sterling Heights Firefighters responded to two structure fires on Friday, July 8, 2016; one in the 2000 block of Nadine Drive in the morning and one in the 2000 block of Newell Drive the evening hours of July 8, 2016.
Fire Stations 1, 3, 4, & 5 responded to the Nadine Drive structure fire, due to the extreme weather conditions being hot and humid. This fire has an estimated property loss of $120,000 with an additional $100,000 in content loss. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries. This fire started in the basement and the house suffered extensive smoke damage. The cause of this fire was accidental.
Fire Stations 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 responded to the Newell Drive structure fire, due to the extreme weather conditions being hot and humid. Mutual aid was requested from Clinton Township and Warren Fire Departments to cover the city, while Sterling Heights Firefighters battled this blaze. This fire has an estimated property loss of $195,000 with an additional $100,000 in content loss. There was one civilian fatality reported and one firefighter was transported to the hospital for heat related injuries but was later released from the hospital. The fire started in the basement, however, is still under investigation by Sterling Heights Police and Fire Departments.
