[ARCHIVED] City to host first-ever “New Resident Forum” in an effort to better connect, communicate

The City of Sterling Heights recently announced it will be hosting it's first-ever “New Resident Forum” this month in an effort to better connect and communicate with residents.

The first forum will be held at at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Library Programming Center, 40255 Dodge Park Road.

The concept for the bi-yearly program was announced at the Strategic Planning Meeting in January. At the forum, residents will hear from leaders in the City’s Police, Fire, City Development, Finance, Parks & Recreation and Library departments. Community Relations Director Bridget Doyle said the concept stemmed from City Council suggestion to find new ways to connect with residents as they move into the City.

“We work hard to make sure our services and programs are open and accessible to residents via City Hall and our website, but some new residents may be first-time homebuyers or unfamiliar with what Sterling Heights has to offer,” Doyle said. “This is an opportunity for the City to make face-to-face contact with residents, present and explain the various City departments and answer any questions they may have. It’s an excellent opportunity for connection.”

“I hope both new and long-time residents will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the City and meet with top-level staff and elected officials,” said Mayor Michael C. Taylor. “We want the City of Sterling Heights to be accessible, transparent and as helpful to residents as possible.”

The New Resident Forum is open to the public; those that plan to attend are asked but not required to email and include their name and address. Light refreshments will be served. Residents with questions about the forum can call Community Relations at (586) 446-2470. For those who cannot attend this meeting, the next New Resident Forum will be held in February 2017.
