The Sterling Heights Department of Public Works will host its first-ever Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Public Works facility located at 7200 18 Mile Road.

The Sterling Heights Department of Public Works will host its first-ever Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Public Works facility located at 7200 18 Mile Road. The open house is being held in an effort to give the community a first-hand look at DPW equipment as well as provide an opportunity to meet the men and women who are out in their neighborhoods every day.
Attendees of the open house can sit in half-million dollar pieces of earth moving equipment, turn on a fire hydrant, take a 30-foot high bucket ride in a sign truck, tour our 68,000-square foot facility, tour the salt barn that holds 7,000 tons of salt, watch a tree chipper in operation, learn how a water meter works and many more fun and interactive demonstrations. Residents will also be treated to refreshments and a light lunch.

“The Public Works Open House will give residents insight into how Public Works is involved in their lives on a daily basis,” said Public Works Director Mike Moore. “From their drinking water to waste water, the roads they travel on and parks where they spend time with family, DPW is an integral part of the Sterling Heights community. We are mostly looking forward to spending a fun day with our residents and showing them how we maintain the infrastructure of the fourth largest city in Michigan.”
