Details: Since the enactment of the Medical Marihuana Act, the City of Sterling Heights has received a dramatic increase in complaints from property owners living adjacent to or in close proximity to residences cultivating large volumes of medical marijuana. On July 19, the City Council adopted a standing resolution at the request of the SHPD authorizing the City Attorney to file suit in Circuit Court to abate these nuisances. On Oct. 11, the City filed its first Circuit Court action against an individual to abate the public nuisances created by an unregistered grow operation.
In addition to receiving details regarding the lawsuit, media in attendance will learn about the City’s plans for an aggressive and zero tolerance crackdown on nuisance grow operations within its boundaries.
