In anticipation of Mayor Pro Tem Joseph V. Romano’s move to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners based upon unofficial results from the Nov. 8 election, the City of Sterling Heights has announced the process by which his successor will be appointed.
Beginning today, the Office of the City Clerk is accepting letters of interest and resumes from residents interested in being considered for appointment to Mr. Romano’s unexpired term ending Nov. 7, 2017. The deadline for filing letters of interest and resumes with the Office of the City Clerk, located at 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, is 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12. Filings received after this deadline will not be considered. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications for appointment, including:
• Residency in the city of Sterling Heights for a period of one year immediately prior to date of appointment.
• Qualified and registered voter of the city of Sterling Heights at time of appointment.
• Cannot be in default to the City.
Residents who have timely filed a letter of interest and resume and meet the minimum qualifications for appointment will be afforded the option of making a three-minute presentation to the City Council at the Tuesday, Jan. 3 regular meeting. This optional presentation should address: (a) qualifications for office; (b) reasons for interest in the office; and (c) a vision for Sterling Heights.
