The Sterling Heights Beautification Commission will sponsor its annual Plant Exchange from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, May 20 at the Nature Center, 42700 Utica Road.
The free “green” event allows gardeners to exchange plants of various varieties. Participants may package their plants in plastic bags, boxes or other small containers. Gardeners are asked not to sell plants. Gardeners may also bring gardening magazines and books to exchange or donate.
Beautification Commission Chairman Gary Isom suggests those exchanging plants make up cards giving the plant’s name, brief description and care. “This makes things go easier and faster and helps everyone in making the right selection,” he said.
Isom said the annual event helps beautify the community and benefits those who wish to bring a wider variety of plant life to their gardens. “Thinning out overgrown perennials and exchanging them with other garden enthusiasts is a great, no-cost way to bring beauty and color to your home,” he said.
