Details: As part of the Recreating Recreation initiative passed by voters in 2016, City of Sterling Heights officials will be hosting a ceremonial groundbreaking for a skate park set to be completed, weather dependent, later this fall. The City Council approved funding for the skate park this May, which will be completed by Portland, Oregon-based company Evergreen Skateparks, LLC. The skate park location is on open, City-owned land between the Public Library and the 41A District Court.

From inception, Recreating Recreation has planned for the addition of a skatepark to the new City’s new recreational amenities. Skateparks attract and provide recreational opportunities to teenagers, who traditionally tend to be an underserved segment of the recreational population in many communities. The City’s planning team envisions a skatepark that provides a unique, fun, and multi-purpose amenity for skateboarders, bmx bicyclists, and the general public.
