While the summer season is in full effect, we want to assure your family a safe and fun experience.
Drowning ranks 5th among leading causes of unintentional death in the U.S. and is the #1 cause of unintentional deaths in children ages 1 to 4. Most drownings occur in residential swimming pools. Preventing unattended access to pools and spas is the number one way to prevent accidental drownings. Adding as many water safety steps as possible is the best way to prevent unintentional injuries from happening. You can visit PoolSafely.gov for further information and take the pledge to have a safe swimming season.
The SHFD also recommends:
- Always supervise children while they are in any body of water
- Learn CPR and other first aid techniques
- Teach your children how to swim
- Have the appropriate equipment for your pool
