[ARCHIVED] City to celebrate Memorial Day with annual parade on May 28

The City of Sterling Heights and its Art Commission are making preparations for the 39th Annual Sterling Heights Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday, May 28, 2018.

The Sterling Heights Memorial Day Parade is one of the City’s great events for residents and visitors to experience. Tens of thousands of spectators line the parade route each year. This year's theme is "Celebrating 50 years honoring those who served - past, present & future."  Marching bands, scout troops, civic groups and individuals are all welcome to march in the parade.

Applications for participation in the parade are now available on the City’s website, www.sterling-heights.net.

Memorial Day activities begin promptly at 9 a.m. in the City Center Courtyard as hundreds gather for a solemn tribute to all veterans who died in the line of duty.  The ceremony will feature remarks from the 2018 Grand Marshal Joseph V. Romano, Macomb County Commissioner and former Sterling Heights Mayor Pro Tem, Mayor Michael C. Taylor, and Chairperson of the Arts Commission Jeanne Schabath. At 10 a.m., the parade kicks off and proceeds south on Dodge Park Road to Metropolitan Parkway.

For more information on the Memorial Day Parade or Ceremony, please contact the Sterling Heights Community Relations Department at (586) 446-2470.
