[ARCHIVED] Arts Commission seeking artists to design mural for Library's Children's Garden

As part of its recently re-launched Public Art Program, the City is seeking artist proposals for the design of an artistically unique and original mural to be installed at the back of the Sterling Heights Public Library in the Children’s Garden area.

The City, with input from the Arts Commission, is recommending mural designs submitted in the following themes, but is open to other design options: reading, children, garden, libraries, recreation, animals, insects and/or family. Artists can submit as an individual or as a group. The area identified for the mural can be seen in the attached photo.

More details of the design contest include:

The chosen artist or artists will receive $1,000 for the design with a plaque crediting the selected artist or artists provided by the City.

Artists interested in submitting a design should fill out the attached form and return to the City of Sterling Heights no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018.

The chosen artist or artists will be required to transfer all copy rights and ownership of the artwork mural design to the City of Sterling Hegihts.

Anyone 18 years or older can submit a design and must sign the attached application form.

The design will be installed by a professional artist in Spring 2018.

Community Relations Director Bridget Kozlowski said those submitting can submit on any size paper, but recommends using a standard 8 ½ by 11-inch paper for scale to draw the original design and submit for consideration.

Submissions received will be reviewed by the City and later juried by the Arts Commission at its April meeting. The chosen artist and design will be announced on Friday, April 6, 2018. Proposals should be submitted to Kozlowski in one of the following ways:
