The Michigan Recreation and Park Association, known as mParks, awarded Sterling Heights Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Langlois with the 2019 mParks Recreation Leadership Award.
The annual mParks Conference & Trade Show that took place Jan. 29 - Feb. 1 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel at Kalamazoo Center.
mParks honors exemplary parks and recreation professionals, agencies and citizen advocates through the Association’s annual awards. The recreational leadership award recognizes a member for outstanding contributions and leadership in the area of recreation programming.
“Kyle is most deserving of this mParks award,” said Sterling Heights City Manager Mark Vanderpool. “Kyle has been a great leader in our organization. It goes without saying one of his greatest accomplishments is the Recreating Recreation initiative in Sterling Heights, which amounts to a $50 million dollar improvement of all of our parks. It’s by far the largest recreational improvement initiative in our city’s history, and it simply would not have been possible without Kyle’s great work.”
Sterling Heights is home to 26 neighborhood and 5 major parks. In 2016, voters approved the Recreating Recreation to improve existing parks and add an incredible number of recreation amenities. The new amenities include a splash pad, farmer’s market pavilion, the Dodge Park Ice Rink, skate park, dog park, new amphitheater, canoe and kayak livery, a mini turf soccer field and more. Construction began in 2017 and is expected to be completed by 2019.
