The City of Sterling Heights, SHPD, the Sterling Heights Drug Free Coalition and CARE of Southeast Michigan are partnering together to honor and bring awareness to Black Balloon Day on Tuesday, March 5 before the regular City Council meeting.
Following the event, the Sterling Heights City Council will adopt a resolution to honor the official Black Balloon Day on Wednesday, March 6.
Black Balloon Day has become a national and international event with the goal of bringing awareness to overdose deaths and the reverberating family loss after an overdose.

Who: Members of Sterling Heights Police Department, Sterling Heights Mayor and City Council, City of Sterling Heights staff, staff of CARE of Southeast Michigan, the Sterling Heights Drug Free Coalition and those who have been personally affected by the loss of a loved one due to drug overdose.
What: City of Sterling Heights and CARE of Southeast Michigan bringing awareness to the drug overdose epidemic by honoring “Black Balloon Day.”

When: Tuesday, March 5. Participants of Black Balloon Day ceremony to arrive around 6:15 p.m. for meet-and-greet, beverages and pastries. At 7 p.m.,
Sterling Heights Police Lt. Mario Bastianelli to speak, followed by an individual who personally lost a loved one to a drug overdose.
