Do you have a genealogy room?: We have general material on conducting and organizing a genealogy search. However, the Mount Clemens Public Library is the best place to start locally for in-depth genealogy research.

1. When are you open?: Please refer to our Hours & Location page for the most up-to-date information. The normal hours of operation and closures are listed.

2. Do you have copy machines?: The library has one black and white copier on the first floor by the stairs, one full color copier in the Youth Services area, and one full color copier on the second floor. Black and white copies are $0.10 per page and color copies are $1 per page.

3. Do you have a coffee shop?: Coffee, pop, and snack machines are available on the first floor. Snacks and covered beverages are allowed to be eaten in the library.

4. Do you have homebound services?: Yes. Please visit our Home Delivery page for more details.

5. Where are the restrooms and drinking fountains?: Restrooms and drinking fountains are located on the first floor in the front entrance of the library, in the Youth Services area, and in the back area by the elevator. Restrooms and drinking fountains are located on the second floor in Adult Services by the public computers.

6. Can I use my cell phone in the library?: Yes, but please be courteous. Take lengthy conversations outside, set your phone to vibrate, use a quiet tone of voice, and remember that your conversation can be overheard.

7. Do you have the City Council meetings back up information?: No. That information is available on the City’s website.

8. Do you have a pen, pencil, paper, highlighter, ruler, note cards, paper clips, calculator, and pencil sharpener?: Staplers, scissors, and pencil sharpeners are available to use in the library.

9. Do you sell City maps?: No, City maps are sold at the City Clerk's Office in City Hall.

10. Do you have a genealogy room?: We have general material on conducting and organizing a genealogy search. However, the Mount Clemens Public Library is the best place to start locally for in-depth genealogy research.

11. Where are the elevators and stairs?: There is a front set of stairs located to the right when you come into the library. There is a second set of stairs towards to back of the library by the Friends' Used, but Sterling Bookstore. The elevator is also located in the back area.

12. Do you have a public phone?: There are no public phones on the City’s property.

13. Do you have a quiet study area?: The library has a quiet study area on the second floor. The library also has five study rooms available on the second floor. All study rooms are available to Sterling Heights residents. Study rooms B, C, and D are available to non-residents. All study rooms are available for one 2-hr session, per day. Patrons can reserve a room online here.

14. Do you have a fax machine?: Yes, we have a free scanner/fax machine on the second floor.

15. Do you have a typewriter?: No, please see the librarian for a list of libraries that have public typewriters.

16. Do you have vending machines?: Yes, the library has a snack machine, a coffee machine, and a pop/water vending machine located near the public elevator on the first floor.

18. Who are the Friends of the Library?: The Friends of the Library, organized in 1976, is a volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to enhancing and improving library service for our community.

19. Where is the used book sale?: The Friends' Used, But Sterling Bookstore is on the north side of the library near the stairs.

20. We would like to donate money to the library. How do we go about gifting the library?: Donations are accepted in a number of ways. Please see the Memorial Gift Form available at all service desks or contact Library Administration at 586-446-2640 for further information.

21. Do you sell your books or order them for patrons?: The library weeds materials after they have been heavily used or outdated. On occasion, we offer them to our bookstore for resale. We do not order books for personal purchase. Online sellers and local bookstores will assist you with that request.

22. How do I find out about events and services throughout the year?: The best place is through our online programming calendar. You can also find out about our events through the City magazine and handouts available in the library.

23. My child would like to volunteer for service. Is it possible?: Visit the City’s website to locate volunteer opportunities. The City will forward the information to us if the volunteer notes they would like to volunteer at the library. We will keep their information on file for upcoming projects or events where assistance is needed.

24. Do you need to register for the library’s programs?: You can register for events through our online programming calendar or by calling the library at 586-446-2640.

25. Do you have a Public Announcement (PA) system?: Yes. Our PA system is used to announce closings, weather alerts, and special programs. In case of an emergency, the librarian in charge will authorize use of the PA system to page a user.

26. Can I book your programming center or conference room?: The Programming Center and Conference Room can be reserved by visiting our Reserve a Study Room or Meeting Room page or by calling 586-446-2640.

27. Does the library accept donations of materials?: Yes, donated items may be brought to the Used, But Sterling Bookstore during it's normal hours of operation.

28. Can I get a receipt for my donation to the library?: The library does not place a monetary value on donations. A receipt for the number of items donated is available at the Circulation desk or in the Friends Bookstore.

29. Does the library offer tours for groups or classes?: Potentially. Please call (586) 446-2640 to discuss the type of tour you would like to have.

30. Do you proctor exams?: No, the Adult Services reference desk has a list of local libraries that do provide this service free of charge.
