Biography

Michael V. Radtke Jr. was elected to his first term on the Sterling Heights City Council in 2017.

As a 20-year resident of Sterling Heights, with a passion for local government, Michael understands that the best ideas for improving government often come from the residents themselves. A small business owner, communications adviser and activist, Michael graduated with a bachelor's degree in history and political science from the University of Michigan and earned graduate degrees in history from Columbia University and the London School of Economics.

His dissertation entitled Operation Third Force: The Red Menace, McCarthyism and U.S. Central Activities in China during the Korean War, 1947-52, explored how political pressure influenced intelligence gathering on communist-controlled China and how biased intelligence influence the creation of a covert action program that ended tragically.

A lifelong world traveler, Michael has visited 27 counties and lived abroad and both Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and London, United Kingdom. No matter where Michael has been, he said he knows in his heart that Sterling Heights — where his family lives — will always be home.
