Biography
Councilman Henry Yanez was appointed to fill the City Council vacant seat in January 2019. He was sworn in on January 15, 2019. Henry has spent much of his life involved in public service. He has served as a firefighter/paramedic and recently as State Representative for the cities of Sterling Heights and Warren.
Henry is a lifelong resident of Southeast Michigan; he grew up in Madison Heights and graduated from Madison Heights High School. After high school, he began a career as a machine tool electrician and has been a member of the UAW, IBEW and the International Association of Firefighters. He received degrees from Oakland Community College in both Fire Science and General Studies.
He remains active in the community with veteran organizations, Meals on Wheels, the Clinton River Watershed Council and the special needs community. Henry has been recognized for his leadership by the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, Michigan Rehabilitative Services and the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union. He received the Legislator of the Year Award from the Michigan Guardian Association in 2017.
Henry is married to his wife Jane, and together they have four children and three grandchildren.
