Purpose

Dog licenses have been a requirement in Michigan since the early 1900s. Licensing helps the city keep track of the number of pets in the community and can benefit dog owners in the event their pet is lost. All dog owners are required to follow this long-standing state law and register their pets. Residents are required to license dogs within 30 days after obtaining a dog over 6 months of age.
