Office Hours
Mayor Taylor holds a public office hour at City Hall on Thursdays from 10-11 a.m. in the Mayor's Office near Council Chambers on the upper level of City Hall. Appointments to meet with Mayor Taylor are not necessary. For more information, contact the Office of City Management at 586-446-2305.
Biography
Michael C. Taylor was elected to his 1st term on the Sterling Heights City Council in 2009. In both 2011 and 2013, he was re-elected with the highest number of votes, earning him the position of Mayor Pro Tem. Following the passing of former Mayor Notte, Michael was confirmed and sworn-in as Mayor of Sterling Heights in December 2014. Mayor Taylor was elected as Sterling Heights Mayor in 2015, 2017, and 2019 elections.
A lifelong resident of Macomb County, Michael and his wife Christina, moved to Sterling Heights after he graduated from the Wayne State University Law School. Prior to earning his law degree, Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Kalamazoo College, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. While at Kalamazoo College, he studied as a foreign exchange student in Oaxaca, Mexico. He is also a graduate of Lutheran High School North in Macomb Township.
Michael joined the law firm of Kirk, Huth, Lange & Badalamenti, PLC as a Senior Associate in 2017 where he continues to represent individuals and families in guardianship and conservator proceedings, probate and trust administration, fiduciary representation and estate planning including drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney and medical directives. He also practices in the areas of business planning, mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, commercial transactions and litigation, real estate law and property tax appeals. Michael was admitted to the Michigan State Bar in 2008 and is a member of the Public Corporation Law section of the State Bar.
In 2013, Michael was elected as the presiding officer of the Millennial Mayor’s Congress, a regional body of elected officials and millennial aged residents working to bring about regional change through local action. He has served as the Sterling Heights elected representative on the Congress since his election to council in 2009.
Michael and Christina are the proud parents of three children: Clara Rose, Hudson Michael and Theodore Francis.
