Flood Insurance

National Flood Insurance Program

If you do not have flood insurance, talk to your insurance agent. Most homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover damage from floods.

Flood insurance is only available to communities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). With Sterling Heights being one, homeowners can purchase a separate flood insurance policy. Moreover, the City is classified as Class 7 community and as such the homeowners are entitled to a 15% discount on flood insurance premium.

This insurance is backed by the federal government and is available to everyone in the City, even for properties that have been flooded. There is a 30-day waiting period before NFIP coverage takes effect. Plan ahead and do not wait until a flood is predicted before purchasing flood insurance.
