Residents are cautioned about the use of motorized scooters in their neighborhoods. First and foremost, motorized scooters are not allowed on a sidewalk or bike path. Moreover, in general motorized scooters may not be operated on a public street because, unlike mopeds, they lack safety features such as headlights, horns and do not meet certain licensing requirements.
Moped Licenses
The minimum age at which a moped license can be issued is 15. The moped must also meet certain safety requirements mandated by the Michigan Secretary of State.
Reporting Motorized Scooter Neighborhood Issues
Residents who believe motorized scooters are a problem in their neighborhood may call the Sterling Heights Police Department’s non-emergency number at 446-2800 and speak to a police officer.
