Overview

The Arts Commission considers, studies and recommends citywide cultural programs. Culture reflects the act of developing social, moral, and intellectual faculties through education. Programs and projects sponsored by the Arts Commission are developed in accordance with the goals and objectives set by the City Council and administration. Some examples of the programming includes:
  • Sterlingfest: The event which includes music, entertainment, arts and crafts, food and fun is held in late July and brings thousands of area residents together.
  • Memorial Day Parade: An event designed to honor those who gave their lives for our American freedom. Awards are given for the Best Float and Band.
  • SterlingScapes: This program brings together the works of several renowned sculptors and showcases them on the civic center grounds while enhancing the City's appreciation of public sculpture.
  • Featured Artist Program: Local artists are chosen to professionally display their art in a public forum.
The 12 members of the Arts Commission are appointed by the City Council and serve without compensation. The Community Relations Director serves as the liaison.
