Overview
The Board of Ordinance Appeals strives to preserve property values through strict enforcement of maintenance standards. The Board reviews cases that have become a nuisance as a result of the property owner failing to comply with these standards and may approve immediate abatement by a City contractor at the property owner’s expense.
The Board also considers requests for variances from City ordinances as authorized by City Council.
The Board of Ordinance Appeals I hears cases year round, while the Board of Ordinance Appeals II serves in the warmer months to assist with the uptick in maintenance violations during this time of year. The Board of Ordinance Appeals I and II each have five total members, with an additional two alternate members for each board that may be called on to participate in the hearings in the case of the absence of a member .
