The United States Fire Administration and the Sterling Heights Fire Department wants everyone to focus on all aspects of fire safety and to incorporate safe practices on fire use and awareness into everyone’s daily lives.

Key Fire Safety Points

In teaching children fire safety, key points should include:
  • Never touch matches, lighters, or candles
  • Never cook alone
  • Never stick anything into an electrical outlet
  • Have a home escape plan (and practice)
  • Find two ways to exit every room in your home
  • Know how to stop, drop, and roll
  • Make sure every house has working smoke alarms especially near bedrooms
  • Change smoke alarm batteries annually
